On August 12, 2026, the Moon will completely cover the Sun for observers within the narrow path of totality. NASA describes that path as crossing northern Russia, Greenland, Iceland, and northern Spain, with a small area of Portugal also inside it. The eclipse will be partial in parts of the United States, from Alaska to North Carolina. How much of the Sun is covered will depend on location. Safe solar viewing requires certified eclipse glasses or a safe solar viewer whenever any part of the Sun is visible.
